In this post, we'll explore how Effective Microorganisms work in water and their applications in various situations, from gardens to daily body care.
How Do Effective Microorganisms Affect Water Quality?
Water is one of the key elements for life, both for us and for microorganisms. Therefore, EM®, through its biological activity, introduces natural purification mechanisms, which help to improve water quality in various environments.

Revitalization of aquatic ecosystems
Water, especially in bodies of water, can easily become contaminated. Sediments at the bottom, an unpleasant odor and the predominance of decomposing microorganisms are all typical signs of water contamination. When we introduce Effective Microorganisms into the water, the microorganisms take over the ecosystem. They begin to decompose impurities, remove excess sediment and improve the biological conditions of the water, promoting a healthy ecosystem.
Improving Water Quality with Effective Microorganisms in Lakes, Tanks or Collected Rainwater
Furthermore, if you have a pond, tank, or other water reservoir in your garden, you can use EM to improve its quality. Effective Microorganisms not only remove unpleasant odors but also restore water transparency, creating better living conditions for plants and fish. The frequency of occurrence of toxic algae and cyanobacteria, known as water bloom, decreases, which in turn maintains the balance of the ecosystem. For the revitalization of water reservoirs, we can use EM Bio or EM Probiotic. The basic dosage of the product is 0.5l – 1l for every 10m³ of water. Additionally, to decompose sediments at the bottom of the reservoir, we recommend the use of... Bokashi balls.
Treatment with Effective Microorganisms in Water in Garden Pools
To clean the pool, add 20 ml of EM for every 1 liter of water. When filling the pool for the first time, let the water pass over the ceramic EM. Place approximately 4 bags of ceramic EM tubes or several large ceramic EM tubes in the filtration system. The ceramics should be placed in a permeable bag (grey ceramic tubes) or tied with ropes (large tubes), ideally in an area where there is water flow.
Add 10 liters of EM for every 10 m³ of water (for larger pools, the amount can be reduced for each additional 10 m³).
If organic substances, such as skin oils and sunscreen, happen to get into the water, add 50 ml of EM for every 10 m³ of water to aid in cleaning.
However, avoid adding EM too frequently, especially in garden pools, as excess molasses (a component of EM) can encourage algae growth. If you prefer, you can use EM White Refresh, which contains EM but does not contain molasses. Furthermore, the frequency of EM addition depends on the specific conditions and temperatures of the pool water.
Therefore, by using EM, the water is stabilized and purified, its quality improves, algae growth is reduced, and the need for chemicals and frequent cleaning is minimized.
Drinking Water and Ceramic Pipes EM
Clean water is essential for our health, and its quality impacts our well-being and hydration. One of the innovative ways to improve water quality is through the use of EM® ceramic tubes. These specialized tubes, loaded with microorganisms and minerals, help revitalize water, improving its structure, taste and purity.
For every 1 liter of water, we use 6 to 8 ceramic tubes. Leaving them in water for about 8 hours improves their molecular structure, increases their oxygen content and reduces unwanted substances such as chlorine and heavy metals. As a result, the water becomes more refreshing, tasty and easier for the body to absorb.

Use of EM in Baths: Water that Purifies and Revitalizes
Water has a huge impact on our health and well-being. With EM, the water in the bathtub or garden pool can not only stay clean, but also become healthy and full of benefits for our skin.
Water in the Bath – Skin Purification
To give your bath water a purifying and regenerating effect, simply add 1/2 to 2/3 of a liter of EM® to the water. It is important to avoid heating the water above 38°C to avoid damaging the beneficial properties of the microorganisms. In addition, ceramic tubes will further improve the properties of the water. Place a bag of ceramic tubes directly under the water flow, allowing the water to flow freely through them.
This bath helps maintain healthy skin flora, cleanses, neutralizes cosmetic residue, regenerates skin lesions and also improves resistance against harmful bacteria. In addition, it reduces itching and the symptoms of atopic dermatitis, improving the overall condition of the skin.
After bathing, avoid taking a shower immediately to allow the microorganisms to fully do their job.
Summary
The use of Effective Microorganisms in water is an excellent way to improve the quality of drinking water, utility water, water reservoirs and garden pools. In general, EM® supports natural purification processes, restores microbiological balance, improves water clarity, reduces odors and helps cleanse the skin. It is undoubtedly an ecological solution that naturally improves the aquatic environment, reducing the need for chemical products. Therefore, it is worth implementing these methods both in the garden and in daily care, to benefit from the properties of nature!
